Guilin (CNS) -- The Guilin authority of marine affairs in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will launch their plan to ban vessel emissions in the famous tourist attraction of Lijiang, valid as of March 1st.

More than 100,000 vessels visit annually, carrying more than three million tourists who fatten the tourism coffers of Lijiang.

The strict new measures have been adopted in light of the fact the river has to bear about 40 cubic meters of domestic sewage, eight tons discharged by the vessels daily, and about 20 tons of residual oil each year.

In order not to ruin the pillar of the city's tourism industry, Vice President Xi Jinping underlined the importance of water conservation in his meeting with the Guangxi delegation during the 11th National People's Congress.
