Beijing detained 17,000 drunk drivers in last 5 years

Beijing (CNS) ?C In the last five years, more than 17,000 drunk drivers were detained by Beijing Traffic Control Department (BTCD). During festival periods the probability of city authorities catching out-of-town drunks, as opposed to local ones, tearing up the streets of the capital is relatively higher, revealed the BTCD on February 8.

A BTCD source said that more tipsy motorists have been picked up since the end of 2006, when their department adopted a "zero-tolerance" policy for drunk driving in order to eliminate this potential trigger for traffic accidents.
