Shijiazhuang (CNS) -- The first snowfall of the year in north China's Hebei Province arrived on November 29 throwing both ground and air traffic into disorder in many parts of province. Two rear-end collisions piled up 21 vehicles and resulted in four deaths and seven injuries. Maintaining flight schedules was also thwarted by heavy fog.

The road accidents on Wednesday were caused by icy pavement conditions following the snowfall, said the local police, and the injured are not in danger of becoming fatalities. The authority will carry on with their investigation.

On Wednesday morning visibility was limited to 150 meters as measured by the Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport wrapped in dense fog. The airport authority had to delay or cancel 39 morning flights, the airport management explained.

For the moment, local authoitiess are keeping a close eye on resumed airport and highway traffic to keep them abreast of any further weather complications.
