Pingtan (CNS) – The high speed roll-on car ferry and passenger ship "Strait" made its maiden Asian voyage today, taking only 2.5 hours to travel 88 nautical miles between Fujiang province's Pingtai and Taiwan's Taichung. About 550 passengers boarded the Strait this morning heading for Taichung.
Strait was bought in from Canada at a price of 300 million yuan (about 47 million USD) in April, as a state-of-the-art vessel. The roll-on ship comes equipped with the most advanced Marine Escape System (MES).
Strait was designed to load 260 sedans and 782 passengers. WIFI is available on the ship and mobile phones can receive signals during the voyage.
