Shanghai (CNS) – Over 10,000 cancer sufferers from home and aboard reached a consensus to hold a Spring Festival Gala themed "smile at life" on January 15th next year, the deputy director of China's Anti-cancer Association Yuan Zhengping said on Sunday.
Several hundred patients from the Shanghai Cancer Recovery Club will perform in the gala, and other charitable organizations will join in, including Shanghai More Love Foundation and others. Well-known Hong Kong film director Wu Siyuan will serve as principal consultant for the gala.
Other cancer recovery clubs from the US, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong will attend the gala. The programme will feature over 10,000 cancer sufferers expressing their gratitude with sign language, an event set to enter the Guinness World Records.
Chinese cancer victims are a group that increases by 2.2 million each year, causing 1.6 million deaths. About 220 thousand Shanghai residents, accounting for one percent of the city's population, are currently fighting cancer.
