Hong Kong (CNS) -- South Korean merchant ship "Bright Rudy" sank just outside Hong Kong waters on the afternoon of November 21, reported the Hong Kong Marine Department. Fifteen of the crew of 21 have been rescued so far. The search for the rest continues.
Carrying steel and other bulk cargo, Bright Ruby had an accident 338 nautical miles south of Hong Kong,on route from Malaysia to the Chinese mainland. Survivors said shifting cargo might have caused the ship to list and capsize.
The Hong Kong administration received an SOS signal at around 3:20 p.m. and immediately sent vessels to the accident site. A spokesman for the marine authority said eight merchant ships responded to their request and assisted in the rescue, later joined by the Hong Kong Government Flying Service.
Nine of the crew are Korean, and the rest are all citizens of Myanmar.
