Beijing (Chinanews.com) -- Fingerprint information shall be included in new ID cards, according to the draft amendments to the Resident Identity Card Law reviewed by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Monday.

This information technique will allow government agencies and other institutions, including financial, telecom, transportation, education and medical care institutions, to process identification information promptly and accurately, and effectively avoid illegal misuse, counterfeiting and alteration of the cards, said Yang Huanning, vice minister of public security, during the meeting.

The print information only contains digital features of the fingerprints. Original print images cannot be restored through the information. In this way, it can effectively safeguard citizens' print information, noted Yang.

No large-scale fingerprint collection will be done. The transition will be made gradually, added Yang.

All those who can get access to the print information are bounded by law to keep its confidentiality, says the daft.
