Chinese shares closed lower Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.62 percent, or 13.01 points, to end at 2,072.59.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 0.62 percent, or 51.16 points, to finish at 8,234.56.
