Chinese shares closed mixed on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.17 percent, or 3.81 points, to end at 2,197.6.
The Shenzhen Component Index edged down 0.07 percent, or 6.35 points, to 8,888.02.
