Chinese shares closed mixed Tuesday, as the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.3 percent, or 6.66 points, to end at 2,227.74.

The Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.25 percent, or 22.7 points, to 8,960.46.
