A gas leak near a furniture mall in Shilihe, Chaoyang district, caused a heavy traffic jam Monday, the Legal Mirror reported Tuesday.
By 6:30 pm Monday, cars were backed up over two kilometers on Xiaowuji Lu near the mall. Firefighters sprayed water to disperse the gas and called passersby to keep away and not use cellphones.
It took five hours to fix the broken pipe, which was suspected to have been damaged by road construction work. Police are investigating.
