Wang Yong, 20, from Gansu Province, was sentenced to seven months in prison and fined 1,000 yuan ($161) at Chaoyang district court for stealing a smartphone.
At around 10:30 pm on September 6 last year, Wang snatched an iPhone 4S from a female passenger surnamed Xu at Jianguomen station on Subway Line 1. He pulled off the theft by grabbing the phone and fleeing just as the carriage doors closed, the court said Wednesday.
