Common Wealth: Ye Hongxing Solo Exhibition

The artist Ye Hongxing uses the language of decorative symbolism in her recent works, to illustrate an increase of materialism in developing societies. Her latest paintings are concerned with contradicting definitions of wealth and progress. The simple and direct use of Chinese currency against a backdrop of her own black-and-white portrait contemplates the desire for, and contradiction of, common wealth.

Much Ado about Nothing

The Shanghai Repertory Theater (SRT), one of the leading English-language theater groups in Shanghai, is presenting Shakespeare's Much Ado about Nothing set on Gulangyu, the island in Xiamen, off Fujian Province. SRT's version also turns the play into a story about early generations of expatriates in China. The time period has been updated to 1901 when the Boxer Rebellion in China had just finished.
